Appt #12 – Little heart’s a growin’

I went in for fetal echo (in-depth ultrasound of baby’s heart) and another growth ultrasound today. I was so nervous (big shocker) to find out the size of the baby. I had a dream that she was measuring over 2 pounds! Like I’ve said before, I have nothing against “big babies.” (for the record, I don’t like the term “big babies”) And my Dr knows I’m opposed to induction. BUT I don’t want anything to trigger a conversation about induction. Or about my diabetes management.

According to the all-knowing internets, a 23 week old baby in utero should be “just over 1 pound.” One site said average weight at 23 weeks is 1 pound 5 ounces.  I’m actually 23 weeks and 3 days at this point. And our little bundle is measuring approximately 1 pound 9 ounces. I commented on her size and the tech said its too early to really gauge baby’s true size at this time. She showed me a growth curve and my baby falls just above the “average” line and is still below the “larger than average” line. And technically I’m only measuring 5 days off of my due date which isn’t all that bad.

Again, just another motivator, another reason to stay on track with my sugars. It’s a daily struggle, a daily process. Gotta just keep plugging away and find the joy and the positive in it. It will all be worth it in the end.
